The Vienna Capitals took the extra point at home, edging Hydro Fehervar AV19 in a shootout after 2-2 through regulation and a scoreless overtime. Nobody solved anything after the second intermission; the skills competition, won 1-0, settled it.
Fehervar struck first through Anze Kuralt at 14 minutes, assisted by Trevor Cheek, and Vienna answered late in the period as Jakob Lilja converted a Jeremy Gregoire feed to make it 1-1. The middle frame was the turning point in compressed form: Bence Paterka put the visitors up 1-2 at 36 minutes off Viktor Persson, and Shane Gersich tied it at 2-2 in that same minute. The third period and overtime produced no goals.
Gregoire was the difference-maker without scoring, assisting on both Vienna goals - Lilja's equalizer and Gersich's tying strike. Vienna's discipline after the second intermission, holding the visitors off the board for the final 20 plus overtime, bought the shootout where they finished it 1-0.
