Vienna Capitals took a 4-3 overtime win in Villach, forcing the extra period after EC VSV tied it at 3-3 at the 60-minute mark and finishing it in the 65th minute. The Capitals never led by more than one goal, but they answered every VSV push.
VSV opened it in the 14th minute through Elias Jeronimo Wallenta, with Kevin Hancock assisting, and carried that 1-0 edge to the first intermission. The middle period turned on a three-goal stretch: Senna Peeters tied it in the 37th off a Linden Vey feed, John Hughes put the hosts back ahead in the 38th with Alex Wall assisting, and Peeters struck again in the 39th, set up by Felix Koschek, for 2-2 after 40. Jakob Lilja's unassisted goal in the 47th made it 2-3, and VSV's equalizer in the 60th sent it to overtime at 3-3.
Peeters was the difference-maker with both of his goals inside three minutes of the second period, each from a different setup man. Vienna scored in all three periods plus overtime; VSV scored exactly once in each of the three regulation frames and were blanked in the extra time.
