Bartunkova defeated Vidmanova 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in Monterrey, settling a match that was decided by breaks of serve. After dropping the second-set tiebreak, Bartunkova reasserted herself in the decider with two breaks, the second taking her to 5-3 before she closed out the set.
The opening set featured seven breaks, with Bartunkova earning the decisive one in game ten to win it 6-4. Vidmanova levelled by taking a traded-break second set in the tiebreak, 7-6. In the third, Bartunkova broke in the opening game, was pegged back immediately, then broke again to move ahead 5-3 and finish 6-3.
Bartunkova’s serving line was not clean: four double faults, a 39% first-serve rate and only one ace, while Vidmanova hit three aces. But Bartunkova won the second-serve battle, 57% to 36%, and edged the total points count 43-35.
