Vaxjo Lakers HC put this one away before the second intermission, beating Red Bull Salzburg 6-3 in regulation. The Swedes scored the game's first five goals and never had to defend a one-possession lead.
Vaxjo took the first period 3-0 on strikes from Eemeli Suomi at 8 (Jimi Suomi), Jimi Suomi at 13 (Dennis Rasmussen) and Hugo Gustafsson at 19 (Sebastian Strandberg). Rasmussen at 24 and Eemeli Suomi's second at 27 made it 5-0, and while Salzburg answered through Dennis Robertson at 31, Benjamin Nissner at 42 and Nicholas Poisson at 45 to get within 5-3, the hole was too deep; an unattributed Vaxjo goal at 60 sealed it.
Eemeli Suomi was the difference with two goals, and the Suomi pairing combined on the opener. Peter Schneider assisted on both of Salzburg's third-period goals, the only sustained push the visitors managed.
