Adler Mannheim rode a decisive second-period push to a 3-1 regulation win over Växjö Lakers in the Champions Hockey League. After a scoreless first period, the home side grabbed control with two goals in quick succession.
Matthias Plachta opened the scoring at 22, and John Gilmour doubled the lead at 23. Dennis Rasmussen answered for Växjö at 26 to make it 2-1, but Mannheim steadied in the third before Justin Schutz added the insurance goal at 60.
Three different scorers powered Mannheim, and the 2-0 cushion built by the 23rd minute proved decisive. Växjö never found an equalizer, leaving Schutz’s late goal to secure the final margin.
