Varzim SC came from behind to beat CD Trofense 5-1 in the Taça de Portugal first round, with Pedro Matos scoring twice to turn the match around. Trofense took an early lead, but Varzim were level by the interval and took control after the restart.
Trofense opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Pedro Matos equalised for Varzim in the 38th. Matos put Varzim ahead in the 46th minute, a red card was shown in the 70th, and goals in the 73rd, 77th and 87th minutes — including one from Francisco Silva — completed a convincing win.
Pedro Matos was the standout performer, his brace arriving in the 38th and 46th minutes. Varzim struck four times after the break, while Trofense added nothing to their early lead.
