Vandewinkel H. defeated Zakharova A. 6-3, 6-3 at the WTA 125K Istanbul 2, Turkiye Women Singles, riding a dominant first-set serve and converting four of six break points. The Belgian won 11 of 17 service games and saved 66% of break points faced, while Zakharova won just four service games and converted only two of ten break chances.
The first set swung early as Vandewinkel broke for 0-2 and 0-4, then Zakharova fought back to 1-4, but Vandewinkel held firm to close out 6-3. The second set saw a flurry of breaks: Vandewinkel opened with a break at 0-1, Zakharova levelled at 1-1, then Vandewinkel struck again at 3-4 and sealed the match with a break at 3-6.
Vandewinkel’s four aces all came in the first set, where she won 73% of second-serve points compared to Zakharova’s 33%. The Russian managed only 55% of first-serve points won in the match and was broken seven times overall.
