Santos fought back from a goal down inside the first minute to beat UCV FC 4-2 in their CONMEBOL Sudamericana playoff round tie. The home side dominated possession and created far more chances, with 58% ball possession and 25 shots to UCV FC's 14.
UCV FC took a stunning early lead when Samuel Sosa scored in the opening minute. Santos levelled through Miguel Terceros just before half-time, then took control with Gabriel Barbosa and Gabriel Menino scoring within nine minutes of each other early in the second half. Gonzalo Mottes pulled one back for the visitors, but Rony sealed the win with a goal in the 90th minute.
Santos’ expected goals of 3.07 reflected their superiority, with Gabriel Menino both scoring and providing an assist. Despite five saves from each goalkeeper, Santos’ greater firepower proved decisive, as they missed three big chances but still scored three of their six big chances.
