Liu H. beat K. Uchida 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Zhangjiagang, recovering from losing the opener. The comeback was driven by Liu's return game: he converted four breaks to two and won 31 receiving points to Uchida's 22.
Uchida broke for 3-0 in the opener, and although Liu responded to 1-3, 2-4 and 3-6, Uchida never trailed and took the set 6-3. Liu then took command in the second set, breaking for 3-0 and 5-0; Uchida pulled one break back to 5-1, but Liu closed it out 6-3. In the decider, Liu broke for 2-1 and again for 5-2 to finish the match.
Liu's serving was the bedrock: he saved seven of nine break points, did not double-fault and put in 83% of first serves (57/69). By contrast, Uchida was broken four times and landed only 61% of first serves (46/76).
