Stefanos Tsitsipas outlasted Remy Collignon 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 in the first round of Gstaad, recovering from a second-set tiebreak loss to dominate the decider. The Greek broke twice in the final set and did not face a single break point, while Collignon saved 5 of 6 break points in the third but could not stem the tide.
The first set swung with breaks: Tsitsipas broke at 4-2, Collignon immediately replied at 4-3, but Tsitsipas broke again at 6-4 to close. In the second set, Collignon broke in the opening game, Tsitsipas levelled at 3-3, and Collignon took the tiebreak 7-6(5). The third set was all Tsitsipas: he broke at 3-2 and secured the win with another break at 6-3.
Tsitsipas was flawless on serve in the final set, winning 7 of 7 first-serve points (100%) and all 5 second-serve points, while facing no break points. Overall, he won 52 of 77 first serves (68%) and converted 3 of 4 break chances. Collignon, despite saving 8 of 11 break points, could not hold off Tsitsipas when it mattered most.
