Trungelliti broke in game two of the second set to lead 2-0, but Medvedev hit back with a break in game nine and then struck again in game 11 to move ahead 6-5 and serve out. Medvedev finished with 9 aces and held 9 of 9 service games.
Medvedev’s first serve was the key number: though he landed only 50% of first deliveries, he won 88% of those points. Trungelliti served cleaner, with no double faults and 72% first serves in, but it was not enough to prevent Medvedev taking the match 66-64 on total points.
