Francesca Jones rallied from a set down to beat Martina Trevisan 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the WTA 125K Rome event. After a dismal first set, Jones dominated the remainder of the match, converting 7 of 13 break points and saving eight of the 13 break points she faced.
Trevisan broke early in the opener to lead 1-0 and again at 3-0, but Jones pulled one break back at 3-1 and another at 4-2. Trevisan reclaimed the advantage at 5-2 and served out the set. The second set turned when Trevisan broke for 1-0, only for Jones to break straight back at 1-1. Jones then won six games in a row, breaking again at 1-3 and 1-5 to take the set. In the decider, Jones broke at 0-1, 0-3, and 1-6 to seal the comeback.
Jones’s ability to win 83% of points on Trevisan’s second serve (15/18) and a run of 10 consecutive games from 1-0 down in the second set to 0-2 in the third proved decisive. Trevisan’s first-set dominance (69% first-serve points won) faded as she won just 38% of her first-serve points in the third set.
