The first set saw an extraordinary nine breaks of serve, with Lajal taking the last break at 4‑6 to seal it. The second and third sets followed a similar pattern: every game was broken until the tiebreaks, where Tomić held his nerve to win both. The second‑set tiebreak went to 7‑6, the third to 7‑6.
Lajal hit five aces and did not double‑fault, but he could not convert his lone break point chance in the first set (he broke once from two opportunities).
