The opening set featured no breaks and was decided in a tiebreak, which Tomić took to edge ahead. In the second, Tomić saved three break points early before breaking Forbes at 2-4 to go up 4-2, then held serve twice to close out the match.
Tomić’s first-serve percentage (78%) and perfect break-point saving (3/3) were decisive; he lost just nine points on serve in the second set. Forbes, despite winning 79% of points behind his first delivery, could not buy a break and committed twice as many double faults as Tomić.
