The first set turned late: Tauson broke in the opening game, but Stephens levelled at 4-4 in game eight, then broke again to seal the set 6-4. The second set was one-way traffic — Stephens broke for 2-0 and 4-0 and closed out 6-1, winning nine consecutive games at one stage.
The decisive numbers came on return: Stephens won 45% of points on Tauson's first serve and 61% on her second, amassing 28 receiving points to 15. Even five aces from Tauson could not slow her down.
