Barbora Krejčíková rallied from a set down to defeat Clara Tauson 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at WTA Athens, Greece Women Singles. The Czech won the decisive third set by converting two of three break points while saving two of three on her own serve, securing the victory with a late break at 3-6.
Krejčíková raced through the first set, breaking at 1-3 and again at 1-5 to take it 6-1. The second set was a marathon of breaks: Tauson broke first at 2-3, Krejčíková broke back at 3-3, then Tauson broke at 3-4, Krejčíková levelled at 4-4 before Tauson broke decisively at 6-4 to force a decider. In the third, Krejčíková jumped to a 4-1 lead with breaks at 1-2 and 1-4; Tauson pulled one back at 2-4 but Krejčíková broke again at 3-6 to close the match.
Krejčíková's superior conversion on break points proved key: she won 6 of 10 (60%) while Tauson managed just 4 of 16 (25%). The former Grand Slam champion also won 59 return points to Tauson's 39, despite firing fewer aces (4 to 3) and more double faults (9 to 7).
