Alejandro Tabilo defeated Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in four sets at the US Open. The left-hander was immaculate on serve, winning all 19 of his service games while saving four of five break points.
Tabilo broke in the second game of the opener, then raced through the second set with breaks in games 1 and 3. Hanfmann erased an early deficit in the third, breaking back at 4-4 and taking the tiebreak, but Tabilo struck again in game 6 of the fourth to seal the win.
The decisive edge came on return: Tabilo converted five break points to Hanfmann’s one, and he held every service game of the match. Hanfmann hit 13 aces but could not turn that into a lasting advantage.
