Tabacco F. came from a set down to beat Chepelev A. 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 at the Como Men Singles, settling the deciding set in a tiebreak. Both players converted five break points, and Tabacco’s return game proved decisive as he won 49 receiver points to Chepelev’s 42.
Chepelev controlled the opening set, going 4-1 up after breaks in games 1 and 5 and later closing it out 6-3. Tabacco turned the second set around with breaks in the first, third and fifth games, moving from 0-1 to 1-5 before serving out for 6-3. In the decider, Chepelev broke for 4-2, but Tabacco replied immediately at 4-3 and then won the tiebreak.
Chepelev won one more point overall, 109-108, and saved 13 of 18 break points to Tabacco’s 6 of 11. Yet Tabacco’s first serve was the key edge: he won 72% of points behind it to Chepelev’s 60%, and that carried him through the final tiebreak.
