Elina Svitolina came from a set down to beat Tereza Valentova 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 at Cincinnati, closing with a dominant final set. She saved 10 of the 15 break points she faced and finished with six aces to Valentova's none.
Valentova took the opener 6-3, converting three break points to Svitolina's one and breaking in games 3, 7 and 9. Svitolina levelled by winning the second set 7-6 in a tie-break after the pair traded breaks in games 1, 2, 7 and 8, then ran through the decider, breaking in games 2, 4 and 6 to seal the 6-0 set.
The decisive numbers came on serve: Svitolina lost only four points on serve in the final set and did not face a break point there. Valentova made eight double faults in the match and won only eight service points in a decider in which she never held.
