Doncaster Rovers are through to round two of the EFL Cup after beating Stockport County 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Alfie May and Kyle Wootton scored within a minute of each other to leave the tie level after 90 minutes.
May put Doncaster ahead on 50 minutes, converting John-Alan McGrath's assist. Stockport hit back immediately, Wootton equalising a minute later. Owen Bailey was booked on 83 minutes, but neither side could force a winner, so the tie went to a shootout.
Stockport dominated the stats, with 73% possession and 18 shots to Doncaster's eight. They had eight shots on target, but Doncaster's goalkeeper made seven saves. Doncaster had only one shot on target, yet it was enough to earn the shootout victory.
