Stellenbosch beat Marumo Gallants 3-1 in the Premier Soccer League, with Quwan Plaatjies scoring all three goals. The home side were clinical, turning three of their four shots on target into goals despite seeing less of the ball.
Plaatjies opened the scoring in the 13th minute from Tlakusani Mthethwa's assist, then added a second in the 28th with Raoul Daniels providing the assist. He completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute, again set up by Daniels, before Thapelo Dhludhlu pulled one back for Gallants in the 81st.
The numbers show Gallants dominated territory, with 58% possession and 17 shots to Stellenbosch's 42% and 10. Yet Stellenbosch's expected goals of 1.56 outweighed Gallants' 0.95, and they were more ruthless in front of goal.
