San Jose Earthquakes II ran out emphatic 6-1 winners over Sporting Kansas City II, turning a tight first half into a rout with four goals before the break and two more after it. The home side dominated from start to finish, outshooting their visitors 18 to 6 and creating three big chances, all of which they scored.
The scoring started in the eighth minute when San Jose took an early lead, but Sporting Kansas City II hit back through an equaliser just after the half-hour mark. That proved to be a brief respite — San Jose regained the lead in the 40th minute, added a third just before half-time, and then struck again three minutes into the second half. Two further goals in the 81st and 89th minutes completed the scoring.
San Jose's attacking efficiency was underlined by an expected goals figure of 2.53 against Sporting's 0.50, and they racked up nine shots on target to the visitors' two. Two yellow cards were shown, one to each side, in the 76th and 88th minutes, but they had little impact on the one-sided outcome.
