D. Shnaider beat D. Snigur 6-0, 6-4 at the US Open, riding a dominant return performance. She converted five of eight break points and won 29 return points, while Snigur managed only two breaks of her own.
Shnaider raced through the first set, breaking in games two, four and six to complete a 6-0 bagel. The second set was tighter: Snigur twice hit back, breaking at 2-3 and 4-3, but Shnaider answered immediately at 4-4 and then broke again in game ten to seal the match 6-4.
The difference came on first serve: Shnaider won 71% of first-serve points despite landing 56%, while Snigur won just 48% behind her 67% first-serve rate. Shnaider also hit two aces and lost only two service games in the match.
