Jannik Sinner outlasted Alexander Zverev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 at Wimbledon, turning the match on two decisive breaks in the third and fourth sets. Despite dropping the first-set tiebreak, Sinner won the second-set tiebreak to level and then seized control with superior return play.
The opening two sets were decided exclusively in tiebreaks: Zverev took the first 7-6 after a single break at 6-7, then Sinner returned the favour in the second-set tiebreak to make it one-set-all. In the third set, Sinner broke for 5-3 and served out; in the fourth, he broke at 4-3 and held to close the match. Zverev never earned a break point in the last two sets.
Sinner’s return and clutch play proved decisive: he converted 2 of 5 break points (40%) while Zverev failed to convert his only break opportunity. Sinner also saved his lone break point faced (100%), helped by a 66% first-serve percentage compared to Zverev’s 80%, yet Sinner won a higher share of first-serve points (80% vs 71%).
