Adeeko opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, and Hannant doubled the lead before half-time from Emmanuel Dieseruvwe's pass. Jonny Smith added a third in the 80th minute, assisted by Dajaune Brown, to put the game beyond doubt. Shrewsbury had chances of their own but were denied by the Rochdale keeper, who made four saves.
The contrast in finishing was stark: Rochdale scored from all three of their shots on target, while Shrewsbury had 16 shots, four on target, and two big chances but missed both. Dale also completed 460 accurate passes to Shrewsbury's 200.
