Schoolkate beat Basavareddy 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the US Open, winning a four-setter built on a faultless serve. He hit 24 aces, held all 18 of his service games and converted two breaks, one in each of the last two sets.
Schoolkate edged the opener 7-6 in a tiebreak after no breaks, then Basavareddy levelled by taking the second 6-3, breaking in game 6 for 4-2. Schoolkate broke early in the third, in game 2, and took it 6-3 before the decisive fourth set. The only break of the fourth arrived in game 5, and Schoolkate closed out 6-4.
The match turned on serve: Schoolkate's 24 aces and 18 holds proved decisive, while Basavareddy, despite 15 aces and more return points won (36-31), could not turn that pressure into enough breaks. Schoolkate saved three of four break points and finished with 86 service points won to Basavareddy's 79.
