Cruz Azul beat Santos Laguna 1-0 in the Primera Division Apertura, courtesy of a dramatic late goal from José Paradela. The hosts controlled much of the contest but needed until the 89th minute to find a way through.
After a tight opening hour, the only booking came in the 50th minute when Aldo Lopez was cautioned. Cruz Azul kept pushing, and with time running out Andres Montaño laid on the decisive pass for José Paradela to score the only goal.
The numbers underlined the home side's dominance: 63% possession, 16 shots to seven and four on target against Santos's one. The Santos goalkeeper made six saves to keep his side in it, but Paradela's late strike settled the game.
