Atlas claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Santos Laguna at home, with Edgar Zaldívar’s second-half strike proving decisive. The result lifted Atlas after both teams had struggled to create clear chances in a tight first half.
The only goal came in the 65th minute when Edgar Zaldívar found the net to put Atlas ahead. The first half had been punctuated by two yellow cards: Carlos Gruezo was booked on the half-hour mark and Gustavo Ferrareis just before the break, adding a bit of edge to the contest.
Atlas were more clinical in front of goal despite having less possession (44% against Santos’ 56%). They registered five shots on target compared to Santos’ one, and their expected goals of 1.12 reflected better quality chances. Goalkeeper saves told a similar story: Santos’ keeper made four stops, while Atlas’ made one.
