San Jose beat San Diego 5-4 in overtime, erasing a two-goal second-period deficit for the second time in the night. The Barracuda scored the only goal of the third period and then the only one of the extra session.
San Diego opened with goals at 9 and 10 minutes, but San Jose answered at 11 and again at 20 to leave the first period 2-2. The Gulls pushed back with strikes at 24 and 30 for a 4-2 edge, and that margin held until San Jose's 38th-minute goal cut it to 3-4 going into the intermission. The equalizer came at 42 minutes, and from 4-4 the third period produced nothing further.
The decisive number is the scoreless stretch San Jose imposed after the 30th minute: the Gulls did not score again across the final 30 minutes of regulation or in overtime, while the Barracuda put up three unanswered. Four goals conceded in the opening 30 minutes and none after it is the whole game in one line.
