Iga Świątek came from a set down to beat Maria Sakkari 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in Cincinnati, turning the match on the return. She broke Sakkari four times and saved seven of eight break points on her own serve.
Sakkari edged the opener after breaking in game 5 at 2-3, backed by five aces. Świątek answered in the second set, breaking in game 2 at 2-0 and game 6 at 5-1, then closed out the decider with breaks in games 1, 3 and 7 at 1-0, 3-0 and 6-1.
The match turned on Świątek's service: she saved 5 of 6 break points in the opener, faced none in the deciding set, and won 10 of 11 service games overall. Sakkari's five aces in the first set proved a false dawn as Świątek dropped just two games across the final two sets.
