Dimitris Sakellaridis beat Luca Beraldo 7-5, 6-3 in Biella, controlling the match on return. He converted four break points to Beraldo's two and won 29 receiving points across the match, with neither player hitting an ace.
Sakellaridis broke immediately in game two of the opening set to lead 2-0, but Beraldo hit straight back in game five for 3-2 in his favour. The set stayed level until the twelfth game, where Sakellaridis broke again to take it 7-5. The second set followed the same script: a break in game two for 2-0, an instant reply from Beraldo in game three, then a decisive break in game four for 3-1.
The key number was return efficiency: Sakellaridis won 40% of first-serve return points against 31% for Beraldo, and 68% on second-serve returns to 56%. He did so despite five double faults to Beraldo's two, saving three of five break points while Beraldo saved only two of six.
