Saint-Étienne eased to a 3-1 win over Clermont Foot in Ligue 2, with three goals and a controlled performance. They dominated from the start and were rarely troubled despite a late Clermont consolation.
Irvin Cardona put Saint-Étienne ahead on 41 minutes from Thierno Ballo's assist, and Ballo doubled the lead on 54. Jakob Breum made it 3-0 on 71, and although Ousmane Diop pulled one back for Clermont on 89, the result was never in doubt. Breum was booked on 49 and Clermont's Ivan M'Bahia saw yellow on 68.
The hosts dominated the stats, holding 61% possession and firing 21 shots to Clermont's five, with four big chances to one. Thierno Ballo had a hand in two of the goals, assisting Cardona's opener before scoring himself.
