Johnson S. beat Rouvroy M. 6-4, 6-2 at the WTA 125K event in Caldas da Rainha, converting three break points to her opponent's one. The difference was her steadiness on serve: Johnson saved three of four break points across the match and hit no double faults.
The first set stayed on serve until the seventh game, when Johnson broke at 3-4 to move in front and close it out 6-4. Rouvroy struck first in the second set, breaking in game two at 2-0, but Johnson replied immediately in game three at 2-1 and then broke again in game five at 2-3 and in game seven at 2-5 to run away with it.
Johnson's return work stood out: she won 9 of 15 second-serve return points (60%) and took 32 service points to Rouvroy's 27 while landing 73% of first serves. Rouvroy's only ace of the match could not offset losing four service games.
