West Bromwich Albion thrashed Rotherham United 4-1 in the EFL Cup first round. Jimmy Morgan scored twice as the visitors dominated from start to finish. Rotherham’s reply came only in the 87th minute through Fabio Tavares.
Morgan opened the scoring in the 8th minute with Harry Whitwell providing the assist, and Whitwell doubled the lead in the 24th. Felix Horn Myhre made it 3-0 on 55 minutes and Morgan added his second on 61, this time assisted by Callum Styles. Tavares pulled one back for Rotherham late on with ArJany Martha assisting.
West Brom controlled the game, enjoying 71% possession and outshooting Rotherham 18 to 8. They put 10 shots on target to Rotherham’s two and converted four of their five big chances. Morgan’s brace was the difference up front.
