J. Rodionov beat G. Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets at the US Open, 7-6, 6-0, 7-6. Rodionov was the only player to make a return dent: he converted all three of his break points, while Mpetshi Perricard did not manage a single break of serve.
The opener was decided in a tiebreak, with Rodionov taking it. He then stormed through the second set, breaking in the first, third and fifth games and winning six games in a row for a 6-0 bagel. The third set went to another tiebreak, and again Rodionov came out on top.
Rodionov’s serving was the standout feature: he won all 15 of his service games, put 65% of first serves in and saved all three break points he faced. Mpetshi Perricard had more aces (9 to 8) but also five double faults, and finished behind on service points won (62 to 69).
