River Plate beat Argentinos Juniors 2-0 in the Superliga, thanks to goals from Gonzalo Montiel and Ángel Correa. The scoreline flattered the hosts slightly, as Argentinos Juniors had more of the ball but could not find a way through.
Montiel put River ahead on 37 minutes with the first real moment of quality, and the home side protected that lead until Correa sealed it in the 89th minute. Argentinos pushed for an equaliser after the break but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
River took their chances when they mattered: they had three shots on target to Argentinos' one, and scored from both of their big chances. Argentinos dominated possession with 58% and had nine shots, but registered only one on target and missed a big chance of their own.
