Sebastian Ofner defeated Alexander Ritschard 6-4, 6-4 in Seville, converting two breaks to his opponent's one and saving three of the four break points he faced. The margins were slim across the board — Ofner won 48 points to 45 — but he was the sharper player in the moments that decided games.
Ofner broke immediately in the opening game of the match at 0-1, only for Ritschard to level things by breaking back in the sixth game at 3-3. The Austrian responded at once, breaking again in game seven at 3-4 and serving out the set. The second set stayed on serve until game nine, when Ofner broke at 4-5 to close out the match.
Ofner's second serve was the difference: he landed 21 of 23 second serves and won 61% of those points, against 47% for Ritschard, who also served three double faults to Ofner's two. Ritschard actually got more first serves in (63% to 51%) and did not face a break point in the second set until the last game he served — but he never saved the one that mattered.
