Julia Riera came from a set down to beat Maria Stoiana 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in Barranquilla, turning the match around by holding firmer in the closing stages. Both players converted five break points each across the match, but Riera saved 8 of 13 against her serve to Stoiana's 6 of 11.
The opener was a scrappy exchange of breaks: Riera struck in the very first game at 1-0, Stoiana hit back immediately at 1-1, and after further breaks at 3-5 and 4-5 the American sealed the set with another at 4-6. Riera broke again in the first game of the second set, held the advantage until Stoiana levelled at 5-5, then took the tie-break to force a decider. In the third, Stoiana broke at 0-1, but Riera answered at 1-1 and broke again at 4-2 to move clear.
