Durban City FC 2024 had to settle for a point after a 1-1 draw with Richards Bay FC, despite dominating the ball. Richards Bay struck early through Nqaba Xulu and then looked to protect their lead. Durban pushed forward and grabbed an equaliser through Thembela Sikhakhane, but could not find a winner.
Xulu gave Richards Bay a 9th-minute lead, catching Durban cold. Sikhakhane levelled in the 69th minute after sustained pressure from the hosts. The momentum shifted after that, but Richards Bay dug in to earn a share of the spoils.
Durban were clearly the better side on the numbers, with 62% possession, 14 shots to 10 and 340 accurate passes to 193. Yet they only scored once, while Richards Bay took their one big chance. It was a case of domination without reward for the hosts.
