Eisbären Berlin held on for a 4-3 win in Salzburg in regulation, built entirely on a first period they won 3-0. The visitors never trailed, and never needed to score again after the 21st minute.
Gabriel Fontaine opened it at 6 off a Liam Kirk feed, Korbinian Geibel made it 0-2 at 10 with Ty Ronning assisting, and Kirk scored unassisted at 13. Jean-Luc Foudy's goal at 21, from Markus Vikingstad, pushed it to 0-4 and became the cushion Salzburg spent the rest of the night chasing: Jayden Lee at 34, Dennis Robertson at 46 and Mario Huber at 53 closed it to 3-4 after 60.
Wyatt Kalynuk was the hinge of the comeback with assists on both third-period goals, and Kirk finished with a goal and an assist for Berlin. The period splits tell it plainly - 0-3, 1-1, 2-0 - Berlin banked enough in 20 minutes to survive the last 40.
