São Paulo beat Red Bull Bragantino 2-1 in Brasileiro Série A, building a two-goal lead in the first half and then withstanding a late fightback. Luciano opened the scoring on 14 minutes and Gustavo Santana made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time.
The second goal just before half-time gave São Paulo a cushion, and although Bragantino saw more of the ball after the break, they rarely threatened. Fernando pulled one back in the 90th minute with Henry Mosquera providing the assist, but it proved only a consolation.
The underlying numbers show Bragantino owned the ball – 63% possession and 347 accurate passes to São Paulo's 173 – but São Paulo were far more incisive, registering 16 shots and seven on target to their opponents' seven and two. Their expected goals of 1.33 to 0.17 reflected a deserved win for the home side.
