B. Sanchez Martinez defeated D. Reček 6-4, 6-3 in Augsburg, thanks to a single break in the first set and three breaks of serve in the second. After saving all three break points on his own serve in the opener, Sanchez Martinez took control of the match on return.
The opener stayed on serve until the fifth game, when Sanchez Martinez broke for a 3-2 lead and closed it out 6-4. In the second set Reček hit back immediately, breaking for 3-1, but Sanchez Martinez replied at 3-2, then added two more breaks in the seventh and ninth games to take the set 6-3.
Reček hit six aces to Sanchez Martinez's zero, but it was the winner's effectiveness on first serve that proved decisive: 79% of first-serve points won to 66%, and 34% of first-serve returns captured to 21%. Despite the ace gap, the pair finished level on total service points won, 32-32, with Sanchez Martinez taking the bigger points on return.
