Nina Basiletti beat Lucija Radivojevic 7-6, 6-4 at the WTA 125k in Ljubljana, edging a first set that went to a tiebreak and then surviving a chaotic second in which serve counted for very little. Basiletti saved both break points she faced in the opener, while Radivojevic never got a look at a converted break until the second set.
There were no breaks at all in the first set, decided in the tiebreak that Basiletti took. The second set turned into an exchange of breaks — Radivojevic broke for 2-1, Basiletti hit back for 2-2, Radivojevic again at 3-2, Basiletti again at 3-3 — before Basiletti's break in game eight for 5-3 proved the turning point; Radivojevic broke back for 4-5, but Basiletti broke once more to close it out at 4-6.
The margins were tiny: 80 points to 74 overall, with both players converting exactly three break points. Basiletti's edge came on second-serve return, where she won 8 of 10 points, and on the first-set tiebreak she claimed without ever facing a set-point deficit on serve.
