Sherif broke at 0–2, 1–3, 1–5 and 2–6 to take the first set 6–2. Putintseva responded by converting an early break at 1–0 in the second and added two more at 4–3 and 6–3 to level. After a string of holds, Sherif broke at 5–6 in the third to serve for the match, but Putintseva broke back at 6–6 to force a tiebreak. Sherif edged the tiebreak 7–6(7).
