Gomez beat Pucinelli de Almeida 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 in the ATP Challenger Bonn, taking the opening tiebreak and then closing out the decider with a break in the final game. Pucinelli de Almeida led 6-5 in the first set, but Gomez broke back at 6-6 to force the tiebreak.
Pucinelli de Almeida broke twice for 3-0 in the opener and again to lead 6-5, yet Gomez levelled at 6-6 and took the tiebreak. Pucinelli de Almeida then dominated the second set with breaks for 2-0 and 5-0, while Gomez replied at 5-1. In the decider, Pucinelli de Almeida broke in the first game, Gomez responded at 2-2, and Gomez broke one last time to seal it 7-5.
The box score said Pucinelli de Almeida did more: 109 points to 97, 49 return points to 30 and five aces to four. Gomez, though, won the points that decided the match in the tiebreak and in the decider's last game.
