M. Schoenhaus beat M. Poljičak 6-4, 6-3 in Augsburg on the strength of a clean serving display and two timely breaks. Schoenhaus saved all four break points he faced and converted two breaks, while Poljičak never managed a break of his own.
The first set was decided early: Schoenhaus broke in game three at 1-2 and held on for 6-4. In the second, he struck again at 3-4 in the seventh game and sealed the match with another break at 3-6 in game nine.
The match turned on Schoenhaus’s efficiency in the biggest moments. He saved all four break points he faced and won 72 points to 58, while Poljičak hit four aces to Schoenhaus’s one but could not turn his serving output into breaks.
