Coventry City beat Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the EFL Cup second round. Two goals inside the first five minutes set the tone, and although Plymouth fought back to level twice, Coventry always carried the greater threat.
Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring in the 3rd minute and Jack Rudoni doubled the lead two minutes later. Oliver Irow and Xavier Amaechi twice brought Plymouth level, but Ephron Mason-Clarke and Victor Torp struck in the 67th and 78th minutes to settle it.
Coventry dominated possession with 66% and created five big chances to Plymouth's two, though both sides registered five shots on target. Awoniyi was the standout, scoring once and setting up Rudoni's goal. Three players were booked, with Joel Latibeaudiere, Xavier Amaechi and Josh Eccles all cautioned.
