Mirra Andreeva beat Karolína Plíšková 6-0, 6-2 in Toronto, winning via clinical returning and clean serving. Andreeva converted six break points, while Plíšková managed just one break and was undone by eight double faults.
Andreeva broke in games 1, 3 and 5 to take the opening set 6-0. Plíšková went up a break at 0-2 in the second, but Andreeva immediately levelled at 1-2 and then closed the match with breaks at 3-2 and 5-2.
The standout numbers were Andreeva’s 28 return points won and 25 service points won, compared to Plíšková’s 11 and 17. Andreeva did not double fault once, won 74% of first-serve points, and converted six of her eight break-point chances.
