Wong edged a first set that featured breaks on both sides before claiming the tie-break. Paul reset with two breaks in the second, then broke in the opening game of the third and again in the ninth to move ahead. A break in the second game of the fourth gave him all he needed to close out the match.
The decisive numbers came on return: Paul won 42 return points and 34% of points against Wong's first serve, while Wong managed just 18% on Paul's first serve. Wong's 12 aces were not enough to stop Paul, who finished with 101 points to Wong's 77.
