Parry D. came from a set down to beat Boisson L. 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at Cincinnati, turning the match around with a decisive second set packed with breaks. After a flat opening, Parry found a way through on return and closed the decider without losing serve.
Boisson edged the first set by breaking in game five for 3-2 and holding on to 6-4. The second set swung on five breaks: Boisson went up 3-2, Parry answered immediately for 3-3, then broke at 5-3, was broken back at 5-4 and sealed the set by breaking in game ten. In the third, Parry’s break in game four for 3-1 proved enough, and she saved both break points she faced.
The stats show a fine margin: Boisson finished with more aces, 8 to 3, and won 99 points to Parry’s 97. But Parry’s superior timing on the big points decided it – she converted four of her eight break chances, one more than Boisson, and did not face a decisive setback after the second set.
